This page lives somewhere. One machine generated it, another served it to you and data travelled to reach your screen.
The site began with a question: how much do we really need?
The choices
Static by choice
Pages are generated before a visit and can be served as files that are already complete.
Less work for the browser
About 1.6 kB of inline JavaScript manages only the day/night theme; content and navigation work without JavaScript.
Essential dependencies
No external fonts, analytics, trackers or third-party services are required for the site to work.
Testable accessibility
Semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, contrast, zoom, reduced motion, and automated and manual checks.
This page has a weight
HTML and local resources are measured automatically during the build.
Budgets check page weight, request count, application JavaScript and external dependencies.
Local estimates describe generated files; they are not measurements of production traffic.
Is it a green website?
A lightweight site is not automatically sustainable. Emissions and overall impact also depend on infrastructure, energy, networks, devices and patterns of use.
I can measure what I build, document my choices and try not to use more resources than necessary. The rest is a process, not a badge.
How it is built
- Astro, static HTML and CSS.
- About 1.6 kB of inline vanilla JavaScript, limited to the theme switcher with a complete fallback to the night theme.
- The theme preference is stored only in the browser.
- Five languages generated without a client-side translation runtime.
- Performance, accessibility, HTML, links and page weight checked during the build.
Before this site
The previous portfolio was built with Flutter Web. It was more visual and interactive, and came from a desire to experiment with Flutter outside mobile apps.
Keeping it makes it possible to see how my choices have changed. Software also tells the story of who we were when we wrote it.
The room
The old pixel art room remains here as part of the site's history: a scene people may explore by choice, rather than a required doorway before the content.
